TRAINING SECTION
It is the
goal of the Training Section to provide comprehensive and realistic
training to the Department's members so they may continue to provide the
citizens of Arlington with high quality emergency services.
To maintain their state
certification levels, each year firefighters and EMT-Intermediates must
complete 20 hours of Fire continuing education (CE) and 32 hours of EMS
CE. These requirements along with AFD internal training objectives
make up our Core CE Curriculum.
Below is a diagram of
our Core CE Curriculum. Read more about each level and how they
work together.

|
LEVEL 1 - QUICK DRILLS |
|

This program has been
developed to provide regular CE credit. Quick Drills are hour long
cognitive Intranet based training modules that cover both Fire and EMS
CE requirements. |
|
LEVEL 2 - FIELD
TRAINING OFFICER (FTO) |
|
In
the Arlington Fire Department, the Captain is recognized as the senior
tactical member on the emergency scene. The cognitive portion of
the FTO program is issued on the Department's Training Intranet.
Once the student completes the cognitive portion, the Captain then
instructs a "hands on" training class to all assigned members. |
|
LEVEL 3 - BATTALION
DRILLS |
Battalion
Drills may either be training exercises that build on information and
skills learned in Levels 1 and 2 CE training classes, or subject areas
that Battalion Chiefs deem necessary to increase battalion level
operational readiness. |
|
LEVEL 4 - BURN DRILLS |
|
Burn
drills are the culmination of the Department's Core CE Curriculum.
Burn Drills will be developed based on Levels 1, 2, and 3 CE programs
already offered along with Operations Division objectives. |
