Come On In!
Cowboys Stadium
Open House is Sunday, Aug. 9
|
 Arlington
residents wishing to see the inside of
what's become the hottest tourist
attraction in the southwest will get
their chance at noon Sunday, Aug. 9.
That's when the doors of the $1.15
billion Cowboys Stadium open - just for
us Arlingtonites. Think of this Stadium
Open House as a big thank-you hug.
"Arlington residents are the ones who
agreed to help finance the stadium, and
they will be able to go into the stadium
for free and enjoy what they have helped
build," said Arlington Mayor Robert
Cluck.

A City Appreciation
Code Rangers
Help Revitalize Neighborhoods
|
More
than 100 City Code Rangers were recognized
Thursday at an appreciation event in east
Arlington that included special awards and
certificates for outstanding service. To
date, 312 residents have received training
in code compliance since this citywide
initiative was created in 2007 to promote
safe and healthy neighborhoods. More than
12,300 violations have been reported. Last
year, the Arlington Code Ranger program was
a finalist for a Municipal Award of
Excellence from the National League of
Cities. Becoming a Code Ranger is easy. The
next training session is Aug. 22. Click

Don't Flush
Drop Off Unneeded
Pharmaceuticals Saturday
|
 The
City of Arlington is making it easier
for residents with unneeded or expired
prescription medicines to dispose of
them instead of flushing the
pharmaceuticals down the drain. On
Saturday, Aug. 1, from 8 to 11 a.m.,
residents can drop off their discarded
medicines at the Water Utilities North
Service Center located at 200 N. Cooper.
"When pharmaceuticals are disposed of in
the sanitary sewer system through sinks
or toilets, they have the potential to
pollute our streams and reservoirs,"
said Water Utilities Director Julie
Hunt.

Be Careful Out There
A Reminder About Pool
and Lake Safety
|
 Few
things beat the heat like a cool dip in
the pool or fun on the lake. But
splashing in the pool or canoeing in the
lake can unexpectedly turn dangerous.
Drowning is the second-leading cause of
accidental death among children ages 1
to 14, according to the National Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention.
Drownings don't just happen in pools but
lakes and rivers. The Arlington Fire
Department encourages residents and
visitors to our city to take active
roles in protecting children and
themselves from drowning risks. See our
water safety tips.
