A Journey of Hope!
Push America Cyclists
Bring Disability Awareness
|
When 33 cyclists pedal into Arlington on
Sunday, July 19, at the midway point of
their 4,000-mile Journey of Hope,
they'll arrive with a singular vision:
Bring awareness to people with
disabilities. Since 1996, the City of
Arlington has hosted this annual
outreach project with activities like
a wheelchair basketball game against the
7-time National Champion Movin' Mavs and
summer swim activites with youths. Be a
part of the official Arlington welcoming
ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday, July 20, at
City Hall.

Conserving Water
Don't Water Between 10
a.m. and 6 p.m.
|
 With
the summer heat in full swing,
this friendly reminder: Don't water
between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Hand
watering and soaker hoses are
allowed. It's a year-round City
ordinance. And noncompliance is
wasteful and costly. Up to 30
percent of water released through
irrigation or sprinkler systems
evaporates due to sun and wind.
SaveArlingtonWater.com offers tips
on how you can conserve water and
save energy.

The Father of Arlington
Historical Marker Honors
Rev. Andrew Hayter
|
Arlingtonites
wanting a history lesson in our city's
beginnings should visit Founder's Plaza at
100 W. Abram St. in the Downtown/University
District. There you will find a historical
marker and bust of The Rev. Andrew Hayter,
an early settler and father of
Arlington. The historical marker was
unveiled July 3 during Independence Day
festivities. The marker imprint tells the
story of his efforts to establish Arlington
along the railroad tracks in 1876. Learn

Arlington: A Playful City
That Loves Its Sports |
Arlingtonites
like to watch and participate in activities.
Not only has the city earned the Playful
City, USA Award from the national non-profit
organization KaBOOM! but Men's Health
Magazine has ranked us the No. 1 sports town
in America. This is our second honor as
Playful City, USA. We're just one of 93
communities chosen. Mayor Robert Cluck cited
strong programs like Naturally Fun
Neighborhoods and No Child Left Inside
campaign as initiatives engaging youth and
families. Men's Health used
baseball, UTA basketball and football game
attendance to come up with its result. Visit
Naturallyfun.org for Parks and
Recreation activities.
