Neighborhood Spotlight:
Randol Mill Estates |
 Helping
refugees, sending special socks to
American soldiers in Afghanistan,
throwing a going-away gala for
Iraq-bound National Guardsmen and
women. Helping to plan the
neighborhood grand re-opening of
Fire Station No. 4. Randol Mill Park
Estates has always described their
neighbors as a close-knit bunch.
Busy is another description. And
it's bound to get busier. Ever since
Randol Mill Park Estates spent
their $10,000 grant from the
Neighborhood Matching Grants program
on enhancements to their
neighborhood's gateway, they've been
bitten by the neighborhood
improvement bug.

Making Literacy a Priority |
Posters Promote
Reading
This year's "Celebrity Reads" posters
have a sports theme in honor of the new
Dallas Cowboys
stadium. Posters displayed at all public
libraries, recreation centers and AISD
schools are changed out each month with
a different local celebrity
touting their favorite books. The
posters are sponsored by the City of
Arlington, the Arlington Public Library
System and the Friends of the Arlington
Public Library.

New Literacy
Program Targets Adults
Reading programs aren't just for
school-age children. Arlington Reads is
a new literacy program at East Arlington
Branch Library where adults can receive
free one-on-one and small-group
instruction. This City of Arlington
reading initiative covers basic literacy
for non- and poor-readers, or readers
struggling with English as a second
language. Tutors and the adult learners
meet two hours a week on a day and time
of their choosing. Remember, Arlington
Reads still offers after-school tutoring
for children in grades one through
three. For more information , call the
Literacy Coordinator at 817-275-3321 or
go to arlingtonreads.org.
