Homeless Rate Drops in
Tarrant County |
 The
number of unsheltered residents in
Tarrant County has dropped 10
percent, according to a report from
the 2009 Homeless Count. That's good
news to the cities working with
Tarrant County to address the plight
of the homeless. The number of
unsheltered residents decreased from
2,421 in 2008 to 2,181 in 2009.
Arlington saw a decrease as well
from 322 in 2008 to 310 in
2009. "These numbers show us that
Arlington is heading in the right
direction with the adoption of our
10-year initiative to end chronic
homelessness," said Community
Services Assistant Director David
Zappasodi. He praised volunteers who
came out on the cold brisk night in
January to help with the count.

Youth Spotlight: Meet Sameen Ali
|
Sameen
Ali has a mantra: Work hard. Strive for
your personal best. Pursue your
pleasures. It's worked quite well so
far. Sameen is four months shy of
calling herself a high school graduate
of Juan Seguin High School, ranking
seventh in her class. She recently
completed a four-week internship with
the City of Arlington as a Richard
Greene Scholar, a high school program
where students get a glimpse of
Arlington institutions.

The Police Department's
New Look |
 Arlington
police have a new look. A new fleet of
midnight blue Dodge Chargers with white
doors and the City of Arlington logo
emblazoned on the side are being worked
into circulation. Four of the new squad
cars rolled out Feb. 6 with more being
phased in as older ones are removed from
use. Soon, you'll see Chevrolet Tahoes,
driven by supervisors, K-9 and tactical
units. The new look is part of the
Police Department's re-branding
initiative, which will also include
new uniform patches with the city logo.
