Santa Comes
to Town
Parade, Tree Lighting Ceremony is Dec. 6

Arrive
early for the Holiday Lights Parade. More
than 75 lighted floats, marching
bands, vintage cars and Elvis clones on
tiny motorcycles. New this year:
Entertainment at the Levitt Pavilion for the
Performing Arts. Beginning at 4 p.m., enjoy
holiday performances by the First Baptist
Church Choir and the Arlington Community
Band. The Star-Telegram-sponsored parade
starts at 6 p.m. followed by the lighting of
the Christmas tree in front of City Hall.
Parade Co-chairperson Don Duke
recommends "bring your own
seating." Selecting a comfortable viewing
point along Abram or Main streets between
West and Center streets. The parade is
approximately 1½ hours long. Following the
tree lighting, Santa will be at the Levitt
Pavilion for photos. To stake out your

when dashing out for holiday
purchases. When shopping after dark,
park in well-lit areas. Make sure

Helping Neighbors
Community Meeting Offers Sources for
Seniors
|
A
number of agencies supporting the quality of
life for Arlington seniors will be on hand
at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Arlington
Human Service Center at 401 W. Sanford. This
community meeting offers resources on
everything from fun local activities to
coping with aging. The meeting is hosted by
Neighbor Helping Neighbor, an organization
that helps reduce senior isolation by
providing services and activities. Speakers
will represent agencies such as Aging and
Disability Resource Center, Adult Protective
Services, Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County
and 211 Texas. Reserve a seat at this

Village at Sports Center Opens Next Year
|
Perhaps you've noticed the
dirt-moving activity occurring at
Harold Paterson Sports Complex at
the northeast corner of Cooper
Street and Wimbledon
Drive. Contractors are breaking
ground for the new $22 million
Village at Sports Center. When
completed, this European-style,
sports-themed plaza will
feature retail shopping, casual
dining, outdoor sporting areas and
offices. It opens in Aug. 2009.

Arlington and the YMCA is making a

reside in the Artisan at Rush Creek
Apartments, a low-to-moderate
income community of about 499 residents.
