SWIMMING POOL INSPECTION PROGRAM

Environmental Health in partnership with Code Compliance inspects all public, apartment, motel, hotel, health club and community pools in the city to ensure compliance with the swimming pool ordinance. This includes water play facilities. Swimming pools are often the source of injuries and frequently play a role in the transmission of infections.

Swimming Pool Plan Review

Whenever a public or semi-public pool is constructed or remodeled, plans and specifications are submitted to the Community Development and Planning Department located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, telephone: 817-459-6502, for review and approval. All pools and spas must meet the requirements of the Texas Department of Health "Standards for Public Swimming Pool/Spa."

Swimming Pool Barriers

Swimming pool barriers/enclosures are designed to keep small children away from a pool. The Code Compliance division plays an active role in protecting children by administering codes pertaining to pool enclosures.  An unprotected pool is potentially as life-threatening as an unsecured firearm in the house.

Requirements

New fences must be approved and permitted by the Building Inspection Division and must meet 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC) requirements. To see the UBC requirements, click here.

Existing fences must meet standards set by the Construction Chapter.  To see the Construction Chapter requirements, click here.

Contact the Code Compliance division immediately if you see or suspect a problem with a pool barrier or gate. In case of emergency call 9-1-1.
