I Do Solemnly Swear…

On Tuesday, May 26, Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck and City Council members re-elected May 9 were administered the oath of office to serve two more years.

According to official results, 10,964 Arlington voters cast ballots re-electing the mayor and District 3 City Council member Robert Rivera, District 4 City Council member Kathryn Wilemon, District 5 City Council member Lana Wolff and District 8 City Council member Gene Patrick.

The oath or affirmation is required by the U.S. Constitution for all newly elected and re-elected members of the Council. On May 26, each elected official affirmed to support and defend the constitution and laws of the city, state and United States.

Did you know? The taking of oaths is not relegated just to those in government service. Those born in other countries who wish to become U.S. citizens must recite the Oath of Allegiance.
