VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AND PROJECTS

SUCCESS STORY: ELVIS

Animal Code Compliance Officer Debra Delaney was returning to the shelter from lunch on May 7, 2009 when she noticed a lady parked on the opposite side of the road.

The lady was out of her vehicle trying to persuade a dog to come with her.

Officer Delaney, rolled down her window and identified herself as an officer and asked if she needed help. The lady responded, “ yes”.

Officer Delaney had a leash in her personal truck (just in case!), and the dog came right up to her. The dog walked very calmly to her truck, jumped in the back seat and went to sleep!

Once Officer Delaney returned to the shelter, she scanned the dog. This dog had a microchip and he was neutered.

The following day, Community Service Agent, Travis Hill, contacted the person the microchip was registered to and they stated that the dog had been missing for a long time. The owner lived in Van Alstyne and had no idea how the dog got to Arlington.

Officer Delaney spoke with the owner, Carol Allen. Ms. Allen works for the SPCA and it is actually her daughter that the dog’s microchip is registered to Ms. Allen had adopted the dog for her daughter and had it microchipped; Ms. Allen told Officer Delaney the dog had been missing for over 2 years.

The family was thrilled the dog had been found. Ms. Allen sent her fiancé, Stephen Rice, to pick the dog (Elvis) up. Elvis is a great dog and very happy to be home!
