Annual Parade is Saturday, July 4
Light Up Arlington begins at 5 p.m. Friday, July 3 in the
Downtown University District. The event features two live music
stages, vendors, bounce houses, face painting and carnival games
along several city blocks in downtown Arlington. Friday’s event also
includes a historical marker unveiling in Founders Plaza. Fireworks
will begin at 9:45 p.m. from atop the eight-story City Tower.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. The theme is “Commemorating our National
Monuments and Memorials.” With an estimated 50,000 spectators
expected, the parade has more than 3,000 participants and 150
entries, which include marching bands, drill teams and antique
automobiles. The grand marshal is baseball hall of famer Nolan Ryan,
president of the Texas Rangers. Visit

June is Adopt-a-Cat Month Approximately 4
million cats end up in shelters every year. Thousands of
kittens are born during the spring and summer, and many end
up in animal shelters waiting for loving homes. To promote
adoptions, the American Humane Society observes Adopt-a-Cat
Month in June. Locally, the Arlington Animal Services Center
is offering free micro-chipping, core vaccinations and
rabies vaccinations for all cats adopted during the
remainder of the month of June 2009. Read
